Cisco MDS 9148S Fabric Switch Benefits

1, Deploy a high availability platform for mission-critical

The Cisco MDS 9148S is available in Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) in environments where downtime is unacceptable. This means that although Fibre Channel ports are communicating, Cisco NX-OS software can be upgraded. The Cisco MDS 9148S includes Inter-Switch Link (ISL) resiliency, and the F-port runs from the Cisco MDS 9148S in NPV mode with an elastic dual redundant hot-swappable power supply and fan, port channel. Provides enhanced performance and monitoring capabilities based on new hardware slow port detection and recovery.

2, Simplified storage management with advanced diagnostics

The Cisco MDS 9148S provides built-in storage network management and SAN plug-in and playback capabilities. All features are available through the Command Line Interface (CLI) or Cisco Prime DCNM for SAN Essentials, a centralized management tool. The Cisco DCNM task-based wizard simplifies single or multiple switches and array management. For a virtualized infrastructure, the entire path it manages: switching from virtual machines to physical storage. The Cisco MDS 9148S also supports Power On-Time Auto Configuration (POAP) to newly deployed switch automation software image upgrades and configuration file installations. In addition, it provides intelligent diagnostics, protocol decoding, network analysis tools, and Cisco Call Home to improve reliability, resolve problems faster, and reduce service costs.

3, Intelligent network services and advanced traffic management

The Cisco MDS 9148S uses Virtual SAN (VSAN) technology in a separate environment for hardware in the physical fabric. It provides access control lists (ACLs) for hardware-based intelligent frame processing. Advanced traffic management features such as Quality of Service (QoS) fabricwide quality and Inter-VSAN Routing (IVR) are included in the optional Cisco MDS 9000 Series Enterprise Package. The QoS priority of the application’s data traffic is better and more predictable for network services. Area-based QoS simplifies configuration and management using familiar partitioning concepts. IVR facilitates resource sharing in VSAN without compromising scalability, reliability, availability, and network security.
