The compact form factor of the Cisco MDS 9250i, typically available only in director-level switches, works with the Cisco MDS 9710 Multilayer Director to be the ideal solution for departmental and remote branch office SANs and large SANs
Cisco MDS 9250i Multiservice Switch Overview
Cisco MDS 9250i Multiservice Switch provides up to forty 16 Gbps Fibre Channel ports, two 10 Gb Ethernet IP storage service ports, and eight 10 Gb Ethernet Fibre Channel (FCoE) ports in a fixed two-rack-unit (2RU) form factor. The Cisco MDS 9250i can connect to an existing local Fibre Channel network to protect your existing storage network. As standard, IP-based Cisco SAN Extended Application Pack licenses are enabled on two fixed 10 Gb Ethernet IP storage service ports, enabling IP Fibre Channel (FCIP) and compression on the switch without additional licenses. In addition, the Cisco MDS 9250i platform uses eight 10 Gb Ethernet FCoE ports to connect to directly connected FCoE and Fibre Channel storage devices and supports multi-layer unified network fabric interconnects directly through FCoE.

1, Integration of SAN and integrated multi-protocol support: The Cisco MDS 9250i provides the following basic configurations: 20 16 Gbps Fibre Channel ports for high-performance SAN connectivity, and 2 IP interfaces (iSCSI) storage services for FCIP and small computer systems 10 Gb Ethernet ports and 8 10 Gb Ethernet ports for FCoE connectivity.
2,High-density Fibre Channel switches with 16 Gbps connectivity: The Cisco MDS 9250i is expanded to have up to 40 16 Gbps Fibre Channel ports in fixed-configuration switches. The base configuration features 20 16 Gbps Fibre Channel ports supporting high-performance SAN connectivity and can be field upgraded by adding the Cisco MDS 9250i On-Demand Port Activation License to support an additional 20 16 Gbps Fibre Channel ports. In addition, the Cisco MDS 9250i enables cost-effective vertical scaling for IBM fiber-optic connectivity (FICON) mainframe environments.
